Only slightly random post

Bloged in General by G Wednesday March 15, 2006 at about 10:43 am

Oh so very very tired. Been up for 33 hours and counting with two shifts at FedEx and classes sprinkled in there. Had a great time last night that has put me in an incredibly good mood today and is keeping me supprisingly awake. I have a feeling tomorrow will be as good if not better. On the down side I had to break my no coffee streak. Last time I drank coffee was 7 months ago, but I don’t think I could have made it through the morning without it. Oh well, the counter is reset and lets try it again.

Have a Happy New Year

Bloged in General by G Friday December 30, 2005 at about 11:44 pm

Since I will be on a plane all day tomorrow winging my way back to Buffalo I thought this would be an appropriate time for this post. Yesterday was a day tour of San Francisco which resulted in this picture down by the bay.

Have a Happy New Year everyone. See you all next year.

Well, I’m officially in California. The picture above is from a stewardess on my first flight. I saw the pin while boarding and couldn’t help asking her for a picture after we landed.

It’s been awhile

I know it’s been a very long time since I’ve posted and I don’t consider this post breaking that streak just yet. I thought this deserved a note.

Former President Bill Clinton visited Rochester Wednesday afternoon at the invitation of Paychex founder Tom Golisano. They toured the RIT campus and spoke to students and staff.

The thin line

Bloged in General by G Thursday October 6, 2005 at about 10:11 am

For those of you who do not know already, I have taken a job working 3rd shift. It’s great since I can work in the mornings and still be out to get to class on time, but the schedule is killing me. I’ve started going to bed fairly regularly at 7 pm in an attempt to get 5 hours of sleep before I have to get up and head to work. This has proven to be incredibly difficult for a variety of reasons which has resulted in me sleeping more in spurts throughout the day when I have free time.

This sporadic sleep has made me realize the line between reality and memory is thinner that I thought. My day now is broken up so much into chunks of work and rest that at times I’m not sure if something I remember from earlier happened or if it was just a dream. This combined with increasingly vivid yet oddball dreams makes each week just a little more interesting than the last.

Arrgh

I have to make sure I get this in before the day is out. For those of you who have been subjected to my blog in the past you might remember a story about a drunken pirate outing we had in Erie about a year ago. Yes thats right, 1 year ago. That would mean that today just happens to be talk like a pirate day!

An idea to note of complete randomness, yet it ties in nicely. I was browsing Slashdot as usual and noticed an article about the Uncyclopedia. This led, about two links later, to the following which is entirely appropriate to this post.

We Fell…

Bloged in General by G Sunday September 11, 2005 at about 2:33 pm

Well I did it… we all did. Jumped from 13,500 feet with a 50 second freefall. Absolutely awesome. All the pictures are in a skydiving set, but I posted my three favorite post-jump pictures below. Enjoy.

The Dive

Bloged in General by G Sunday September 11, 2005 at about 11:00 am

I still can’t completely believe I’m doing this, but by the time this posts I should be on a plane with a parachute strapped to my back. This is something I’ve been interested in doing for awhile, but have never been brave enough to attempt. Brint is heading to Colorado this week for his new job so Brint, his brother and I are skydiving as a send off from the guys.

Check back later as I will have pictures posted as soon as we get back home. Wish us luck. :)

Phil’s Wedding

Bloged in General by G Saturday August 20, 2005 at about 11:12 pm

It’s very late and we have been up having fun for way too long. I just uploaded all of the pictures from the wedding so to anyone interested some of Phil’s Wedding pictures are available.

To all of Phil’s friends from Texas and Florida I would like to say thank you. You definitely made it a fun wedding to remember.

There is a geocache in Erie PA from which this post steals it’s title. I would love to describe this cache location and do it justice, but I know that will not be possible. The cache is located in a drainage tunnel underground with it’s entrance in a park by the lake. The tunnel was absolutely and completely dark stretching before us and behind us as far as our flashlights would allow us to see. The sounds of the shallow water rushing by our feet mixed with our voices and the occasional “boom boom” of a car hitting a manhole cover only to be reverberate off the walls and be echoed into the darkness.

There are additional pictures of this area in my flickr set if you are interested in seeing them. The other pictures were taken with a flash, but in the end this picture is the one I really love. The additional pictures show a snipit of the tunnel and a group portrait.

He does exist

Bloged in General by G Saturday July 23, 2005 at about 8:17 pm

After 5 years we find out that Kevin Wilson does still exist.

On a much heavier note, Brint reposted an old entry that relates to the subject of the reunion.

Five Year Reunion

Bloged in General by G Saturday July 16, 2005 at about 9:17 am

Seneca High School Class of 2000

As strange as it seems, apparently five years have passed since our graduation from high school. This is our opportunity to catch up with old friends ranging from, “don’t you remember me, I sat five rows behind you in English” to the “remember the time we ate paste together in first grade.” Yeah, you can tell how much I’m looking forward to this.

For some reason I’m having a very hard time thinking about a class reunion without Grosse Pointe Blank coming to mind. Oh well, guess I still need to decide if I’m going or not.

Marcella: You know, when you start getting invited to your ten year high school reunion, time is catching up.
Martin Q. Blank: Are you talking about a sense of my own mortality or a fear of death?
Marcella: Well, I never really thought about it quite like that.
Martin Q. Blank: Did you go to yours?
Marcella: Yes, I did. It was just as if everyone had swelled.

[Practicing in a mirror before his high school reunion]
Marty: Hi. I’m, uh, I’m a pet psychiatrist. I sell couch insurance. Mm-hmm, and I – and I test-market positive thinking. I lead a weekend men’s group, we specialize in ritual killings. Yeah, you look great! God, yeah! Hi, how are you? Hi, how are you? Hi, I’m Martin Blank, you remember me? I’m not married, I don’t have any kids, and I’d blow your head off if someone paid me enough.

Planning

Bloged in General by G Thursday July 14, 2005 at about 9:34 pm

I received the following several days ago and decided that with the group of friends that read my site this is a very appropriate question.

Do you ever wonder just how you got to where you are in life? Do you ever look at your life and think, “this just isn’t what I planned”?

I get the feeling that right now several people I know are going though this. College is finished, the working life has begun and we’ve all been thrown a curve ball or two on the way. I think for most of us it’s just starting to sink in that this is for real.

I have, on several occasions, been accused of planning excessively. This is true, but I have considered it and come to the conclusion that while I do plan to an extreme it seems to be limited to the stupidest things. The larger, more important items I have settled for a vague idea. Life never seems to work out the way you plan it, so in the end it’s easier to roll with the punches and be happy with what you have. I’m not saying you shouldn’t try, just don’t be too disappointed if it doesn’t go your way. Things always seem to work out for the best in the end. Yes, that is my official non-answer to this question, how about you?
